Other method's are also used by New Ground Construction; an eastern Connecticut construction firm focused on energy efficient design.  An example is the use of insulated concrete forms or ICF's to prevent heat loss through the basement of a home.  It has been found that 37% of a home's heat is lost through the basement walls.  This is because basements are rarely insulated on both the inside and the outside.  With insulated concrete forms, or ICFs, your R value reaches R-22, or 37.5% more climate retention than that of commonly used fiberglass insulation in 2'x6' exterior walls. The use of the Icynene insulation system, a non toxic, spray in foam that insulates the walls far better than any batted or blown in insulation system would ever be able to.  Because it is sprayed in as a liquid, and expands, it fills voids never touched by batted insulation like fiberglass.
